Swiatek Avenges Madrid Open Loss to Sabalenka

Swiatek Claims Title After Thrilling Three-Set Duel

Sabalenka Fought Back from Early Deficit, Forced Deciding Set

MADRID, Spain (AP) — Iga Swiatek exacted revenge on Aryna Sabalenka in the Madrid Open final on Saturday, claiming the title after a hard-fought three-set battle.

Swiatek, the world No. 1, faced off against Sabalenka, the world No. 2, for the second consecutive year in the final. Swiatek had lost last year's encounter, but this time around, she was determined to turn the tables.

Sabalenka started the match strongly, taking an early 3-1 lead. However, Swiatek quickly reeled her back in, showcasing her remarkable resilience. The Belarusian fought back at 4-4, but Swiatek ultimately extended her lead and claimed the first set.

Sabalenka refused to go down without a fight, and she pulled off an impressive hold at 30-0 down in the second set. Swiatek eventually battled back and won the set, setting up a decisive third set.

The third set was a tense and thrilling affair, with both players trading holds and breaks. In the end, Swiatek's determination proved too strong for Sabalenka, and she sealed the victory with a gutsy performance.
