Pacers' Mathurin to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
ESPN reports that Indiana Pacers forward Bennedict Mathurin is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
The injury is a significant blow to the Pacers, who are currently 23-25 and in the midst of a playoff push. Mathurin, a rookie, has been one of the team's most consistent players, averaging 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
The Pacers have not yet announced a timetable for Mathurin's return, but it is likely that he will miss the remainder of the season. This is a major setback for the Pacers, who are already without All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who is out with a sprained MCL.
The Pacers will now have to rely on other players to step up in Mathurin's absence. Buddy Hield, Jalen Smith, and Andrew Nembhard are all expected to see increased roles. The Pacers will also need to find a way to replace Mathurin's production on the defensive end.
